NaturaConnect's Workshop at the 15th Biodiversity Working Group Meeting

During the 15th Meeting of the Carpathian Convention Working Group on Biodiversity on 17-18 June 2024 in Vienna, Austria, crucial topics on safeguarding the region’s ecological integrity were discussed to inform meaningful collaborations.

Integral to the meeting was a consultation session on the activities of the NaturaConnect project, which aims to build a resilient ecological network of conserved areas across Europe for the benefit of both nature and people. The NaturaConnect project will help build the capacity needed to support European Union Member States and neighbouring countries to deliver a coherent Trans-European Nature Network (TEN-N).

The main purpose of the workshop was to introduce the participants to the current activities of NaturaConnect and gain their feedback on the Connectivity Guidelines, Systematic Conservation Planning, and the methodology for the integration of blue and green infrastructure in the Danube-Carpathian region.

Read the report below for more details on the workshop, including links to the presentation pdfs, participant feedback results, and more.

The Carpathian Convention Secretariat is cooperating with NaturaConnect led by the Institute of Applied System Analysis (IIASA, Austria), to promote ecological connectivity.

The NaturaConnect project unites 22 universities and research institutes, government bodies and non-governmental organizations, working together with relevant stakeholders. Developing a coherent TEN-N linking conserved areas follows the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 as well as in the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Global Biodiversity Framework.
