NaturaConnect's Training Needs Assessment Platform
Now more than ever, we need a resilient and well-connected network of conserved areas. The NaturaConnect project will help build the capacity needed to support European Union Member States and neighbouring countries to deliver a coherent Trans-European Nature Network (TEN-N). A Training Needs Assessment Tool has been developed to enable professionals responsible for planning and implementing protected and conserved areas, to gain an insight into their current competencies and future training needs, based on the concept of competence-based learning. Competence-based approaches focus on building and assessing the actual skills, knowledge and attitude required by individuals to do a job, in addition to the acquiring knowledge-based qualifications.
Want to know more about competence-based learning?
Join NaturaConnect’s interactive information session on 22 May at 16:00 CEST.
In this information session, the project team will introduce the competence-based learning approach. They will show available Training Needs Assessment Tools, that have been developed as part of the Life ENABLE and the NaturaConnect project.
Programme:
- What is competence-based learning? Introduction to the conceptual framework and an overview of available Training Needs Assessment Tools by Erika Vaida-Bela (WCPA Europe Regional Vice-Chair)
- Introduction to the NaturaConnect Training Needs Assessment, including showcasing the platform and the assessment. We will share background information and instructions on using the tool, followed by an open session to take part in the on-spot assessment. By Marit Schnepf (EUROPARC Federation)
Open discussion and Q&A during the whole session. If you wish to conduct the self-assessment during the session, please already register an account on the assessment page.
This session is based on the Global Register of Competences for Protected Area Practitioners by Mike Appleton (IUCN-WCPA) and the professional experience of ProPark.
Purpose of the NaturaConnect Training Needs Assessment
The Training Needs Assessment Tool (TNA) helps assess essential competences for connectivity and conservation planning. The tool is based on the IUCN Global Register of Competences for Protected Area Practitioners, and contains a selected list of competences, which were considered to be specifically relevant for planning and implementing protected and conserved areas, to achieve the 30×30 target of the EU Biodiversity Strategy.
The tool is a comprehensive self-assessment questionnaire, that takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. The results will be processed anonymously and will not be associated with a person or a name.
Who will benefit from the assessment?
The assessment is specifically useful for conservation practitioners, spatial planners, natural resource managers, national authorities and ministerial departments responsible for or involved in planning and implementing protected and conserved areas.
The Carpathian Convention Secretariat is cooperating with NaturaConnect led by the Institute of Applied System Analysis (IIASA, Austria), to promote ecological connectivity.
The NaturaConnect project unites 22 universities and research institutes, government bodies and non-governmental organizations, working together with relevant stakeholders. Developing a coherent TEN-N linking conserved areas follows the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 as well as in the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Global Biodiversity Framework.
