Celebrating a New Partnership: Jagiellonian University and the Carpathian Convention
In an exciting development for both environmental conservation and academic collaboration, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, and the Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention have come together in a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC). This partnership marks a significant step forward in the shared vision of protecting and sustainably developing the Carpathian region.
As we celebrate the Convention’s 20th anniversary, this new partnership couldn’t come at a more opportune time.
At the heart of this collaboration lies a commitment to strengthening the interface between science, policy, and practice. The recent decisions of the 7th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Carpathian Convention have emphasized the importance of scientific networks like the Science for the Carpathians Network (S4C) in advancing the Convention’s objectives.
Furthermore, with the United Nations declaring 2024 to 2033 as the “International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development,” this partnership aligns perfectly with global efforts to leverage science for a better, more sustainable future.
Under the MoC, Jagiellonian University and the Convention Secretariat will work closely on various activities aimed at enhancing the implementation of the Carpathian Convention. These activities include joint research projects, scientific publications, conferences, and educational initiatives focused on sustainable development in the Carpathian region.
This partnership signifies a powerful union between academia and environmental stewardship by combining scientific expertise with policy implementation.
