Let’s celebrate the International Mountain Day – 11 December!

The theme of this year’s International Mountain Day (IMD) is – Women move mountains!

Women play a crucial role in the stewardship, protection and social-economic development of mountains including the keeping and sharing of traditional knowledge. They are often the primary managers of mountain resources, guardians of biodiversity, keepers of traditional knowledge, custodians of local culture, and experts in traditional medicine.

IMD 2022 focuses on the need to empower farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, community leaders, mothers, and mountain women and girls, so that they can more effectively participate in decision-making and resource management. Therefore, International Mountain Day 2022 is an opportunity to promote gender equality and therefore contribute to improving social justice, livelihoods and resilience.

We encourage you to celebrate this International Day 2022 and show your support for mountains, their biodiversity and to women and girls of mountains!
